Menlo squeezes by Red Hawks
Simpson University Sports News
REDDING, Calif. - Menlo College made the long drive from Atherton, Calif., and they made sure that they were going home happy as they squeezed by the Red Hawks 2-1. Both Menlo and Simpson came into Saturday's contest struggling to compete in the Cal-Pac. Menlo (3-9) was fresh off a frustrating loss to Pacific Union College at home; Simpson was still reeling from their loss to Holy Names.
Simpson started out the game strong as Kerry Meehan scored first with a goal in the twenty-first minute of the game. Meehan’s unassisted goal would not see a Menlo answer until four minutes to go in the first half when Carlos Ramirez received a cross from Jaime Pagen.
Less than ten minutes into the second half Menlo’s Said Karizmad scored the final goal of the game. Simpson got several shots on goal after Karizmad’s goal but was unable to capitalize. Menlo barely edged out Simpson in total shots 13-11, and both teams got the same amount of SOG (shots on goal) with five a piece.
Simpson now looks ahead to William Jessup University on Saturday, Oct. 28 in Rocklin, Calif. Kick-off is at 3p.m.
