PUC Defeats Red Hawks

REDDING, Calif. -The Red Hawk men’s soccer team (0-5) faced off with Pacific Union (1-1) on Fri., Sept. 25 in what was anticipated to be their first victory of the season. Pacific Union was winless going into Friday's contest giving the Red Hawk faithful the hope that they were going to see conference play open with a win.
Statistically speaking Simpson out played Pacific Union accruing more shots (19-16) and shots on goal (5-1) for the contest. It was Pacific Union’s sole shot on goal was the Red Hawks' killer for the day. Thirteen minutes into the second half the Pioneer’s Brandon Voigt sailed a shot in for the Pacific Union’s one and only goal of the game. Simpson attempted to answer back getting three more good looks at the goal for the half, but Pacific Union goalie Randy Castanza was able to get the shut out.
Junior Kerry Meehan and freshman Tyler Goens led Simpson with four shots each. Sophomore Michael Guzman added three shots, two of which were on goal. Simpson will continue the hunt for their first win on Sat., Oct. 3 at the Simpson soccer field against conference rival William Jessup. Kick-off is at 3 p.m.
