Red Hawks crush Maritime
Simpson University Sports News
REDDING, Calif. - With head Coach Darby Anderson in Santa Cruz on a scouting and recruiting trip, Assistant Coach Ken Haynes was at the helm for the Red Hawks (2-6) as they took on California State University-Maritime Saturday, Oct. 10. Haynes, who has had two separate stints as an assistant coach with the Red Hawk soccer program, got his first win as a head coach in a dominating 4-1 victory.
Freshman Tyler Goens, who scored two of Simpson’s four overall goals, led the way for the Red Hawks. The Red Hawk bench also got involved with a goal from sophomore Andrew McClary in the fourth minute of the contest. Junior David Robertson recorded the final goal of the game. After a flurry of shots was defended by Maritime keeper Will Akers, the ball popped out one last time to the waiting Robertson, who put it across the line for the final goal.
Moments after Robertson scored the fourth and final goal for Simpson, Maritime answered with their first goal of the season. Between the kick-off and the goal only two players touched the ball. Maritime kicked off and Caleb Lush rocketed a pass to George Dick who shot from the 18 yard mark and scored the only goal of the game and season for Maritime.
Simpson will now travel to Scotts Valley, Calif. on Tuesday, Oct. 13 to play Bethany University at 1 p.m.
