Red Hawks go 4-3 over Spring Break

REDDING, Calif. - The Simpson University baseball team went 4-3 during spring break.
The Red Hawks won 4-0 against Oregon Tech on Wednesday, March 25, at Tiger Field.
Joshua Corson scored an RBI batting home Mark Wiley in the third inning. James Parker, who was 3-for-3, tacked on three scores with a home run bringing in Chris Rabichaud and Joshua Corson.
The Red Hawks won both games of their doubleheader against Cal Tech on Thursday, March 26, at Tiger Field. The first game ended 6-2 and the second game was 10-8.
In the first game, Kenny Button scored a run from Patrick Roman’s hit to far right field. Roman was then brought home by Shane Battles. In the third inning, Mark Wiley hit a double and then stole home when Button was at bat. James Parker then walked to first, stole second on Button’s at bat, stole third on Roman’s at bat, and stole home on Mark Austed’s at bat. In the fourth inning, Daniel Collins scored a run on Wiley’s hit to
far center field; and Wiley stole home from first base when Joshua Corson was at bat.
In the second game, the Red Hawks fell behind early with the score being 4-8 in the second inning, but were able to pass Cal Tech quickly with their teamwork that hindered Cal Tech from scoring any runs after the second inning. Wiley led RBI’s with his home run bringing in Parker and Chris Rabichaud, pinch runner for Michael Oman. Pinch hitter Matthew Alton was 2-for-2, Chad Alden was 2-for-3, and Button was 2-for-3.
Simpson University’s baseball team lost both games of a doubleheader to Bethany University on Fri., March 27 at Tiger Field in Redding, Calif. The team lost 14-7 in game one and 5-3 in game two.
In the first inning of game one, Mark Wiley scored the Red Hawks’ first run by stealing home. Kenny Button also hit a one-run home run. AJ Contreras and Nick Spiess both scored in the second inning when Wiley hit a triple to right center field. Wiley scored on the next play off of a Bethany University error. In the bottom of the third inning, Button scored his second run of the game off of a wild pitch. Contreras scored when Shane Battles flied out to center field. At the end of the third inning, Simpson was winning 7-3 but it could not hold onto this lead.
In the second game, Joshua Corson scored in the first inning when Matthew Alton hit a single to third base. James Parker scored in the bottom of the third inning off an Alton single to center field. Parker scored again in the bottom of the fifth inning off a Bethany University error.
The Simpson University Red Hawks baseball team split a doubleheader with Bethany University on Sat., March 28 at Tiger Field in Redding, Calif. They lost 10-8 in game one and they won the second game 10-1.
In game one, James Parker started things off for Simpson by hitting a home run in the first inning. Mark Wiley and Kenny Button both hit one-run home runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Wiley hit his second home run of the game in the bottom of the seventh inning. Nick Spiess and Shane Battles both scored off this home run. Joshua Corson and Parker also scored in the bottom of the seventh inning off a Button single to left field.
Corson scored Simpson’s first run in the first inning of game two off a Parker single to right field. In the third inning, Mark Austad scored off a Michael Oman single to center field. Nick Spiess scored off a Corson single to left field. Corson scored when Chad Alden hit a triple to right field. In the bottom of the third inning, Patrick Roman hit a two-run home run. Button scored off this hit. In the bottom of the fourth inning, Chris Rabichaud scored off a Bethany error. Austad scored in the bottom of the seventh inning off a Corson single to left field. Parker scored a run in the bottom of the eighth inning off Austad’s sacrifice fly to right field. Button scored Simpson’s final run on a Roman double to center field.
