Red Hawks soar over Eastern Oregon

LA GRANDE, Ore. - Simpson University’s softball team picked up two road wins against Eastern Oregon University on Mon., March 23 in La Grande, Ore. The Red Hawks won the first game 7-4 and the second game 6-4.

Nicki Feuerbach started things off for Simpson in the first inning of game one. She scored off a Danielle Crisosto double to center field. Crisosto also scored in the inning off of Candice Valerga’s single down the left field line. In the top of the third inning, Feuerbach scored off a Valerga line drive to center field. Paige Gomez reached home in the fifth inning off a Valerie Rodriguez single to left field. Feuerbach scored her third run of the game off a Sylvia Parker single to second base. Stefanie Singh scored in the seventh inning when Feuerbach grounded out to second base. Crisosto scored the Red Hawks’ last run off an Eastern Oregon error. Amanda Crocker was the winning pitcher for Simpson.

In the top of the third inning in game two, Simpson’s first three runs were scored off of Eastern Oregon errors. Leah Metz, Parker, and Singh reached home on errors. Feuerbach scored when Valerga grounded out to second base. Feuerbach scored another run in the top of the seventh inning, but this time it was off an Eastern Oregon throwing error. Singh also scored in the seventh inning. Paige Gomez picked up the win for Simpson.

These wins put Simpson’s overall record at 19-13. The Red Hawks’ next game is a doubleheader on Tue., March 24 against Concordia University in Portland, Ore. The first game starts at noon.
