Red Hawks sluggish against Vanguard

REDDING, Calif. - The Vanguard University Lions defeated the Simpson University softball team in a doubleheader on Thursday Feb.26 at Big League Dreams, 7-2 in game one and 19-2 in game two.

In game one, the Lady Red Hawks didn’t score until the bottom of the fourth inning. Sylvia Parker opened up the inning with a triple to right field. Parker was able to score when Candice Valerga singled to left field. Noele Spangler scored Simpson’s second run in the bottom of the seventh inning off of Parker’s single to second base. Parker led the Lady Red Hawks with one run, one RBI, and batting 2-for-4.

In the second game of the double-header, Simpson scored its only two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Stefanie Singh reached home on a Danielle Crisosto single to first base. Sylvia Parker scored the second run when stole home. Vanguard scored 14 runs in the seventh inning to bring the final score to 19-2.

The Lady Red Hawks’ next game is Friday Feb. 27 against Holy Names University at 1 p.m. at Big League Dreams Park.
