Red Hawks split with Bethany in conference opener

REDDING, Calif. - Simpson University’s softball team split a doubleheader with Bethany University on Friday Feb. 27 at Big League Dreams in Redding. Bethany defeated the Lady Red Hawks 4-3 in the first game. Simpson won 6-3 in the second game.

In the game one, the game was tied 2-2 in the first inning due to runs scored by Sylvia Parker and Stefanie Singh. Nikki Feuerbach scored in the bottom of the fourth inning off of a Parker double. Bethany scored runs in the third and fourth innings to give them the winning edge over Simpson.

In the second game of the doubleheader, Simpson jumped out to a 5-0 lead before Bethany even scored. In the first inning, Parker reached home when Feuerbach hit a single to second base. Simpson scored four runs in the bottom of the second inning. Danielle Crisosto scored when several Simpson players reached base on walks. Candice Valerga hit a double to right field that brought in three runs. Parker scored in the fourth inning when Bethany’s pitcher threw a wild pitch.

Brianna Melgard was the winning pitcher for Simpson in this game. Parker went 1-for-3 and scored three runs. Valerga went 2-for-3 and had three RBI.
