Yotes squeeze by Red Hawks

CALDWELL, Ind. - The Simpson University softball lost both games of a doubleheader to the College of Idaho on Sun., March 22 in Caldwell, ID. They lost the first game 6-4 and the second game 5-4.

In game one, Danielle Crisosto started things off for the Red Hawks in the sixth inning when she scored off Candice Valerga’s double to left center field. Noele Spangler drove Valerga home with a single to left field. Corinne Alexander scored off a College of Idaho error. In the top of the seventh inning, Crisosto scored her second run of the game off a Nicki Feuerbach single to left field. This effort, however, wasn’t enough for the Red Hawks. Heather Dixon hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning which clinched the victory for the College of Idaho. Crisosto went 2-for-3 in this game with two runs. Valerga went  2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

In the second game, Sylvia Parker scored the first run of the game off a Stefanie Singh double to left field. Parker scored again in the third inning off a College of Idaho error. Valerga hit a home run in the top of the fourth inning. Valerga scored again off a Valerie Rodriguez double to left center field. Once again, the Red Hawks lost their lead in the bottom of the seventh inning when Dani Villyard brought in the winning run when she was walked. In this game, Parker went 2-for-4 with two runs. Valerga when 1-for-2 with two runs and 1 RBI.

Simpson is now 17-14 overall. Their next game is a doubleheader on Mon., March 23 at Eastern Oregon University. The first game begins at 1 p.m.
