REDDING, Calif. – Simpson University head volleyball coach Christy Swagerty-Vilas announced the signing of local student Alicia Brown of Shasta Lake City, Calif. Brown has signed a letter of intent to play for the Red Hawks during the 2010–2011 academic year.
The 5’7” setter will be joining the Red Hawks from Shasta College where she played two years with coach Kelly Brazil. Prior to that, Brown played at Enterprise High School under the direction of coach Mike Haworth.
Brown says she is excited to join the Simpson University Red Hawks in the spring.
“I’m looking forward to playing with the team and completing my athletic career,” said Brown. “It’s very exciting for me to have this opportunity, especially after facing a season-ending injury my senior year in high school. I know that I can bring things to this program.”
Coach Swagerty-Vilas said Brown will make a great contribution to the Red Hawks.
“Alicia is an experienced competitor who is comfortable performing at the high levels in our conference and division,” said Swagerty-Vilas. “She run the offense with poise and makes smart decisions. Alicia’s intensity and focus will make us better in practice and in matches.”
Brown plans to earn her teaching credential at Simpson University.
