REDDING, Calif. – Simpson University volleyball coach, Christy Swagerty-Vilas, has announced the signing of a new student-athlete for the fall 2010 season.
Kelly Tycksen, a 5’-6’’ setter from Littleton, Colo., will join the Red Hawks with extensive club and varsity volleyball experience.
Tycksen currently serves as the student body president and team captain of her varsity team at Faith Christian Academy and has earned numerous awards, including All-Tournament Teams and MVP, 1st Team All-League, and Honorable Mention All-State. She has assisted her team to tournament championships, back-to-back league and district championships, two state final four appearances, and last year took her team to the state championship match.
“Kelly is a no-nonsense perfectionist with the ideal personality for the setting position,” said Swagerty-Vilas. “She takes winning very seriously and encourages other players to work harder and better. Not only can she run the offense, but her defensive skills and efficient serve will bring our Red Hawk squad much more consistency and competitiveness.”
Tycksen says she is equally excited to join the Simpson University Red Hawks.
“I’m looking forward to being on a great team and I’m ready to push myself and help direct the program toward success,” said Tycksen. “It is going to be a lot of fun to build relationships with my new teammates.”
Tycksen will be deciding between a Psychology and Liberal Studies degree when she begins at Simpson University in 2010.
