REDDING, Calif. - Simpson University women's volleyball team is looking to return to its winning ways. With a strong nucleus of veteran players and a dynamic group of newcomers, Coach Christy Swagerty-Vilas is ready to lead this team to the next level. Competitive intensity is the focus impact on the program's identity this year, giving every position and player on the team an edge against the opposition.

With games against NCAA II Chico State University and six Cascade Conference teams, the 2009 Simpson University volleyball schedule appears ready to compete for a California Pacific (Cal Pac) Conference title and a trip to Nationals.

Along with playing Chico State and members of the Cascade Conference, the Red Hawks will welcome Southwestern College on Sept. 10.

Simpson will open the season on the road by attending the Concordia University Volleyball Classic in Portland, Ore., on Aug. 28-29. The Red Hawks will face Corban College and host team Concordia University. Simpson will then travel to Warner Pacific College on Aug. 29 and then to Southern Oregon University the same night.

The home opener will be Sept. 1 against Chico State University and then the Red Hawks will welcome Southwestern College from Phoenix, Ariz. on Sept. 10. On the following night, September 11, the Beacons of Northwest Christian University travel to the Heritage Student Life Center.

Simpson will open up Cal Pac play against conference rival William Jessup on Oct.2 in Rocklin, Calif. and conclude their season against Menlo College on Nov. 7 at the Heritage Student Life Center.

First year head coach Christy Swagerty-Vilas comments on the upcoming season:"We're going to work hard - and work together. Watch for a refreshed and motivated team to step onto the court, proud to represent the Red Hawks this fall."
