REDDING, Calif. – Simpson University head golf coach Joe Griffin announced the signing of Brionna Goulart of Manteca, Calif., to play for the Red Hawks during the 2010-2011 academic year.

Goulart will join the Red Hawks with fellow East Union High School student and Manteca resident, Tori Souza, who was signed just last week. Her athletic honors include finishing 1st alternate for Nor-Cal individually.

After graduating in 2008, Goulart took a season off and trained with her dad and coach at East Union, Brian Goulart.

“I really wanted to take my game to the next level,” Goulart said. “My dad has been working with me throughout the whole off-season, and I want to come in and work towards being the number one player at Simpson. My goal is to go out and shoot around even-par all the time.”

Coach Griffin said Goulart will have a good chance to play the number one position next year.

“Brionna is a very good golfer and will be looked at as a leader for the women’s golf team. She is another student-athlete that will not only be a positive influence on the athletic department but also the whole campus.”

Goulart’s dad said, “It is so exciting for our family right now. For me personally, as her dad, it makes me really excited for both my daughter and Tori Souza to go to a Christian college with an atmosphere like Simpson’s.”

During the 2010-11 season, the Red Hawks will play against Bethany University, Menlo College, William Jessup University, Holy Names University, Mills College, Pacific Union College and Cal State Maritime.

Goulart plans to enroll in Simpson University’s teaching program.
