Simpson splits weekend series with Bethany

SAN JOSE, Calif. – The Simpson University baseball team played a weekend series with Bethany University on Saturday, March 6 and Sunday, March 7. The Red Hawks split and the Bruins each won two games.
In game one, Bethany defeated Simpson 8-7. Simpson first baseman Aarason Perry went 2-for-2 from the plate and recorded two RBIs. Center fielder Jared Jordan went 2-for-3 from the plate and scored twice. Nick Mikkelson was the losing pitcher; he only pitching a half inning. He allowed two runs and one hit. Dustin Stoddard was the starting pitcher gong 5.2 innings striking out five batters and allowing three hits and six runs.
In game two, the Red Hawks dominated the Bruins 25-4. Designated hitter Chris Moody was 4-for-6 from the plate recording six RBIs and a home run. Third baseman Shane Battles went 3-for-7 from the plate with seven RBIs hitting two home runs. Senior Brad Hurn was the winning pitcher striking out seven batters and only allowing three runs and two hits.
On Sunday, March 7, the Red Hawks dominated Bethany in game one with a 10-2 victory.
Senior Shane Hillier was the winning pitcher striking out 12 batters and only allowing two runs and six hits. Once again, Moody went 2-for-2 from the plate and recorded two RBIs. Right fielder Mark Austad recorded three RBIs.
In game two, the Red Hawks came up short falling to the Bruins 7-6 in the ninth inning. The Red Hawks gave up two runs in the ninth to give Bethany the winning edge.
Battles went 2-for-4 from the plate with three RBIs and shortstop Josh Corson went 2-for-5 from the plate with one RBI. Adrian DeMar was the winning pitcher for Bethany. He allowed one hit and one run. Joshua Weise was the starting pitcher. He struck out three batters and allowed four runs and three hits.
Simpson returns to action against CSU Stanislaus on Saturday, March 13. Game time set to start at 1 p.m.
