Red Hawks lose to Hustlin' Owls

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Simpson University’s baseball team was defeated by Oregon Tech on Saturday, March 27, 5-4 in game one and 8-3 in game two.

In game one, the Oregon Tech Hustlin’ Owls scored two runs in the first inning for an early 2-0 lead. Simpson tied the game in the top of the second when Nick Spiess homered to right field, allowing Chris Moody to score. Oregon Tech scored two more runs in the bottom of the second to regain a 4-2 lead.

In the top of third, Jared Jordan hit a sacrifice bunt to the pitcher, which allowed Joshua Riley to score from third. Moody earned an RBI, from a single to left field which brought home Josh Corson for the 4-4 tie.

For the next three innings, neither pitcher allowed a run, until Oregon Tech hit a double to right field. The go-ahead run from second base gave the Owls the victory 5-4.

Shane Hillier was the losing pitcher. He struck out five batters and allowed eight hits and five runs. Hillier pitched a complete seven inning game. Spiess was 1-for-3 from the plate with one run and two RBIs. Moody went 2-4 from the plate with one run and one RBI.

In game two, the Red Hawks gave up six runs in the eighth inning to lose 8-3 to Oregon Tech. Dustin Stoddard picked up the loss, pitching seven innings, allowing eight hits and three runs, and striking out three batters. Josh Weise pitched one inning allowing two hits and five runs. Rico Adams was 3-for-4 from the plate and recorded one run. Jake Gill went 2-for-4 with one run and two RBIs.
