Dominique Simmons named Women’s Basketball Player of the Week

Simpson University forward Dominique Simmons was selected as the California Pacific Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the dates of Feb. 15-22.

A native of Tacoma, Wash., Simmons averaged 14 points and seven rebounds as the Red Hawks went 2-0 on the week. The Red Hawks won 62-32 over Bethany University on Thursday in Redding and also bested Menlo College 66-55 in Redding on Saturday.

The Red Hawks will participate in the 2010 California Pacific Conference playoffs as they take on Pacific Union College in Redding on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

Justin Sparks named Men’s Basketball Player of the Week

Simpson University guard/forward Justin Sparks was selected as the California Pacific Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the dates of Feb. 15-22.

Sparks, a native of San Bernardino, Calif., averaged 24 points and 14 rebounds for the Red Hawks in a 2-0 week. The Red Hawks beat Bethany University 71-66 on Thursday in Redding and won 74-73 over Menlo College in Redding on Saturday.

The Red Hawks will participate in the 2010 California Pacific Conference playoffs as they take on Holy Names University in Oakland on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
