The No. 6 seed Simpson University men’s basketball team defeated No. 3 Holy Names University 110-101 on Thursday, Feb. 24, in Oakland, Calif., in the first round of the Cal Pac Conference tournament.
In the first half, the Red Hawks shot 62 percent from the field and scored a season-high 54 points, which is six points below their 60 point per game average. The second half was more of the same, as Simpson shot 68 percent from the field and 83 percent from the three-point line.
SCOUTING THE WARRIORS
William Jessup defeated Bethany University 66-55 on Wednesday, Feb. 24, in the first round of the Cal Pac Tournament. Eleazar Jones led the Warriors in scoring with 20 points, and guard Jason Washington contributed 10 points.
Washington leads the Warriors in assists with 5.18 assists per game. Kadeem Kirsten leads the Warriors with 12.93 points per game and Damal Neil with 5.89 rebounds per game.
The No. 1 seed Warriors have only lost one game on their home court this season, but the Red Hawks are coming off an impressive win at Holy Names and have a chance at an upset.
