Simpson faces hope in game one of NCCAA West Regional

REDDING, Ore. - Simpson University men's basketball team took on Hope International University in game of on the NCCAA West Regional tournament on Friday, Dec. 17 in Redding, Calif.

The Red Hawks had a strong first half of play. They were down by only six at the half (37-31). However, things got away from them in the second half. Hope outscored Simpson by 20 (53-33) to earn the 90-64 victory. Size proved to be an issue again for the Red Hawks. They were out-rebounded 43-18 for the game.

Senior Pat Magno had another solid performance for the Red Hawks. He had 17 points. Junior Calvin Smith and senior Justin Chapel each had 10 points.

Hope's Aaron Woods was the game's leading scorer. He had 21 points. Boran Rahcic had 16 points. Jeremy Kilgore had a double-double consisting of 12 points and 10 rebounds. CJ Harris chipped in 10 points for Hope.

Tournament play will continue on Saturday, Dec. 18. The Lady Red Hawks play The Master's College a t 8 p.m. Hope International takes on Southwester College at 4 p.m.
