Simpson falls to Asbury on day two of SU Classic

REDDING, Calif. - Simpson University men's basketball team took on Asbury College on day two of the SU Classic basketball tournament on Friday, Dec. 31 at the Heritage Student Life Center in Redding, Calif.

Both teams battled to a 38-38 tie at halftime. Simpson looked sharp and played excellent team basketball. The Red Hawks shot 50 percent from three-point line and 43 percent from the field.

In the second half, Asbury took control of the game. The Eagles outscored the Red Hawks 40-31. Asbury shot 61 percent from the field.

Senior Pat Magno once again led Simpson with 25 points and seven assists. Junior Bryan Castillo followed with 17 points and six rebounds. Junior Phillip Templeton scored 11 points.

Asbury's Phillip Morrison had a game-high 34 points. Adam Delph had 18 points. Justin Jones scored 11 points and pulled down nine rebounds.

The Red Hawks return to action Saturday, Jan. 1 at 2 p.m. against New Hope Christian College.
