Red Hawks gain victory over Bethany

REDDING, Calif. - The Simpson University men’s basketball team started its last week at home against the Bethany University Bruins on Thursday, Feb. 19. Justin Sparks led the Red Hawks with 23 points and 14 rebounds as the Red Hawks fought through a nail biter to get the 71-66 victory over the Bruins.
The Red Hawks shot 31 percent in the first half compared to Bethany’s 40 percent. The Red Hawks, however, shot 83 percent from the free throw line, which helped them to stay within two at halftime.
Jason Stubbs and Sparks helped the Red Hawks make their push in the second half. It was Andrew Schritter, however, who got the highlight of the night. He was able to pick up a steal at mid-court and take it in for a monster two handed dunk over a trailing Bethany defender.
The Bruins were led by Milton Brown’s 16 points. James Jensen also added in 14 points and eight rebounds. The Red Hawks, led by Sparks, also got solid play from Stubbs who scored 17 and Schritter who added 14 points.
Simpson’s final home game is Saturday against Menlo College. Senior night festivities will be held prior to the start of the game at 7:15 p.m. Tip off is at 7:30 p.m. The seniors being honored are Justin Sparks, Jason Stubbs, Josh Sidener, Andrew Schritter, and Dwight Bond.
