Simpson wins at home against PUC

REDDING, Calif. - Junior Michael Guzman had another standout performance in the Simpson University men's soccer team's 4-2 victory over Pacific Union College on Wednesday, Oct. 20 at the Simpson scored field. Guzman scored two goals to help the Red Hawks earn their third conference win of the season.
PUC's Edrei Mauries scored the first goal of them game nine minutes into the first half. Four minutes later, Guzman evened-up the score at one. Senior Dave Robertson's goal 22 minutes into the first half put the Red Hawks up 2-1. The next goal for Simpson came almost halfway through the second half when the Pioneers scored an own goal. Guzman scored his second goal of the game with 18 minutes of play left in the game to put Simpson up 4-1. PUC's Nebojsa Nenadic scored a goal with nine minutes left in the game, but it wasn't enough to stop the Red Hawks from earning the 4-2 win.
Guzman lead the way for Simpson with two goals. He had three shots and two shots on goal. Robertson scored one goal and had four shots all of which were on goal. Junior Tyler Goens earned an assist on Robertson's goal. Freshman goalie Justin Webb gave up two goals and had seven saves. Edrei Mauries and Nebojsa Nenadic each had a goal for PUC.
Simpson's next game is against conference opponent William Jessup University in Rocklin, Calif. The Warriors won the last time these two teams met. The game is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, October 26.
