Simpson defeats Southwestern in tournament play

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. - The Simpson University men's soccer team defeated Southwestern College 3-2 to pick up their first win of the NCCAA West Regional Qualifying Tournament and of the season.
Senior David Robertson scored first for the Red Hawks. Sophomore Buddy James scored, and Robertson recorded the assist. Junior Michael Guzman scored on a penalty kick. Senior goalie Matt Deacon recorded three saves.
Simpson out-shot Southwestern 19-11. Guzman recorded four shots with two on goal and one goal. Robertson had three shots with two on goal and a goal. Junior Kerry Meehan had four shots with three on goal, and Tim Danna had two shots both of which were shots on goal.
Brett Bowman and Tyler Cotton scored for Southwestern.
The Red Hawks return to action on Sunday, September 26 against Pacific Union College in Angwin, Calif., at 3 p.m. This game marks the beginning of California Pacific Conference play for the Red Hawks.
