No. 1 Central Baptist defeats Lady Red Hawks

PALM BEACH, Fla. - The Simpson University softball team was defeated by No. 1 Central Baptist 5-4 in the NCCAA I Softball World Series.
Central Baptist scored four runs to take an early 4-0 lead in the third inning over the Lady Red Hawks.
Simpson rallied in the top of the sixth, scoring four runs off four hits to tie the game 4-4. Stefanie Singh hit a single to center field allowing Candice Vallerga to score Simpson's first run of the game. On the next at bat Central Baptist pitcher Casey Hammon threw an illegal pitch, allowing Singh to advance to second. Paige Gomez hit a single up the middle, advancing Singh to third. Corinne Alexander was walked, which advance Gomez to second. Nicki Feuerbach stepped up to the plate next and hit a double to left field bringing home Alexander, Singh, and Gomez for the 4-4 tie.
The Lady Red Hawks gave up the game winning run in the bottom of the sixth on a single up the middle, which allowed Central Baptist's Carly McLennan to score.
Krystal Shaw was the starting pitcher, pitching two innings. Shaw allowed three hits, four runs and two walks while facing 13 batters. Haley Rodriguez pitched one inning with one strikeout. Amanda Crocker recorded the loss, pitching three innings and allowing two hits, one run and one strikeout, while facing 12 batters.
Gomez and Vallerga each went 1-for-3 from the plate with a run scored. Feuerbach was 1-for-3 with three RBIs, and Singh went 1-for-3 with a run scored and a RBI.
The Lady Red Hawks return to action Friday, May 14 at 2 p.m. against Judson College in the loser-out bracket. The winner advances to the NCCAA Softball World Series semi-finals on May 14 at 3:30 p.m.
