Simpson splits series with Eastern Oregon

REDDING, Calif. – The Simpson University softball team split a two game series with Eastern Oregon University on Sunday, March 21 (3-2 and 3-6).
In game one, the Red Hawks scored one run in the bottom of the second and third innings to take a 2-0 lead over EOU. Corinne Alexander scored in the second inning off a wild pitch thrown by Eastern Oregon pitcher Jennifer McDonnell. In the third inning, Nicki Feuerbach's single to right brought home Morgan Davis for the lead 2-0.
Eastern Oregon responded scoring two runs and tying the game in the fourth inning. The Mountaineers’ Kassi Reisbeck and Ashli Hughes scored on a single from Wailana Buchana. Simpson pitcher Amanda Crocker closed out the inning by striking out McDonnell.
Crocker would shut down Eastern Oregon for the next three innings only allowing one hit and no runs.
Feuerbach went 1-for-3 from the plate and recorded a RBI. Ayala was 1-for-3 with a RBI, and Davis went 1-for-2 from the plate. Crocker earned the win, striking out six batters and allowing two runs and five hits.
In game two, Eastern Oregon defeated the Red Hawks 6-3. The Mountaineers scored three runs in the second inning, one in the fifth, and two in the seventh for the victory.
Alexander went 1-for-3 from the plate and recorded two RBIs. Davis recorded a RBI, and Chalynn Passmore was 1-for-2 from the plate. Krystal Shaw was the losing pitcher. She allowed six hits and three runs.
The Red Hawks return to action Saturday, March 26 against Patten College. The first pitch is set 12 p.m. in Oakland, Calif.
