Simpson sweeps Menlo

ATHERTON, Calif. - Simpson University's softball team defeated Menlo College 3-2 and 11-0 on Saturday, April 10.
In game one, Menlo gave the Red Hawks all they could handle but still came up short losing 3-2 to Simpson.
The Oaks scored first in the second inning hitting a home run to left center for a 1-0 lead. The Red Hawks responded in the third when Paige Gomez hit a single to center allowing Morgan Davis to score from third base to tie the game 1-1.
Simpson scored again in the fifth inning on a single hit to center by Nikki Feuerbach which allowed Chalynn Passmore to score for a 2-1 lead. In the sixth inning, Gomez hit a single to center which allowed Davis to score for a 3-1 lead.
Menlo scored one run in the seventh, but it wasn’t enough as the Red Hawks defeat Menlo 3-2.
Valerie Rodriguez was 3-for-4 from the plate, Feuerbach was 2-for-4 with a RBI, and Gomez went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Krystal Shaw pitched seven innings striking out three batters and allowing two hits.
In game two, the Red Hawks came out strong scoring 11 runs in the three innings.
Valerie Rodriguez hit a three run home run in the second inning, and Angie Armstrong hit a three run home run in the third inning.
Hayley Rodriguez threw her first no hitter of her college career. She struck out eight batters.
Rodriguez went 2-for-2 from the plate with five RBIs and two runs. Armstrong went 2-for-3 with one run and three RBIs.
Simpson returns to action on Tuesday, April 13 against Oregon Tech at Klamath Falls, Ore. The first pitch of the doubleheader set for 2 p.m. Stay up with the latest Simpson University Softball standings, schedules and box scores on the schedules and results page.
