Red Hawks lose 1-0 to Holy Names in game three of NAIA Qualifier

REDDING, Calif. - Simpson University's softball team was defeated by Holy Names University 1-0 in game three of the NAIA West Regionals on Friday, April 30 at the Simpson softball field. Simpson and Holy Names defeated Great Falls of Montana earlier in the day to eliminate them from the tournament.
Holy Names scored the only run of the game in the sixth inning on a single to left by Laurel Clough which brought in Taryn Thomas for the score. The Red Hawks were unable to rally in the seventh, losing 1-0 to Holy Names.
Morgan Davis was 1-for-4 from the plate; Valerie Rodriguez and Nicole Hutchins each went 1-for-3. Hayley Rodriguez recorded her first loss of the season, pitching a complete game in which she allowed four hits and one run. Rodriguez also struck out five batters.Both teams will face each other again Saturday, May 1 for the right to go to Alabama for the NAIA National tournament. The Red Hawks must win to force a second game in the double elimination play. The first pitch is set for 2 p.m.
