Holy Names steals NAIA berth from favored Red Hawks

REDDING, Calif. - Simpson University's softball team was defeated by Holy Names University in the NAIA Softball West Regional Tournament 4-1 on Saturday, May 1.

Holy Names scored all four runs in both the second and third innings to secure the victory. Simpson senior Candice Vallerga’s double to left allowed Valerie Rodriguez to score in the seventh inning the only run for the Red Hawks.

Rodriguez went 1-for-3 from the plate with one run, and Vallerga went 1-for-3 with a RBI. Morgan Davis was 2-for-3 from the plate.

Amanda Crocker was the losing the pitcher with two strike outs, four hits and two runs. Krystal Shaw finished the game allowing two runs and two hits.

The Red Hawks will continue play on May 13-15 in West Palm Beach, FL for the NCCAA I Softball National Championship. Simpson is ranked No. 7 nationally in the NCCAA.
