Lady Red Hawks fall short in NCCAA semi-finals

PALM BEACH, Fla. - The Simpson University softball team was defeated by Olivett Nazarene 3-2 on Friday, May 14 in the NCCAA Softball World Series semi-finals.

Simpson got on the board first in the second inning when Morgan Davis hit a single to left field bringing home Valerie Rodriguez for a 1-0 lead.

Olivet Nazarene responded in the bottom of the second when Shelley Durante singled to left field allowing Molly Anderson to score from third and tie the game 1-1.

The Lady Red Hawks took a quick lead in the top of the fourth when Paige Gomez hit an infield single, which brought home Davis for a 2-1 lead.

In the bottom of the fourth, Olivet Nazarene scored two runs to take the 3-2 lead.

Simpson had many chances to take the lead, but the Olivet Nazarene’s pitching and defense was too much. They defeated Simpson 3-2.

Haley Rodriguez was the losing pitcher allowing five hits and three runs. She struck out three batters.

Davis went 3-for-4 from the plate with a RBI. Stefanie Singh was 2-for-4 from the plate and Gomez was 1-for-3 with a RBI.

The Lady Red Hawks finished their season 35-19 overall, 2-2 in the NCCAA Softball World Series, and 14-2 in the Cal Pac Conference. Simpson also earned the first ever Cal Pac Championship in the school’s history.
