Red Hawks sweep through Oakland: Day Two

OAKLAND, Calif. – The Simpson University softball team defeated Holy Names University on Saturday, March 27. Simpson defeated Holy Names 3-1 and 2-0.
In their first meeting with Holy Names, the Holy Names Hawks were the first to score with a single to center which allowed a runner from second base to score.
Holy Names lead for the majority of the contest until the Red Hawks' Paige Gomez hit an infield grounder allowing Chalynn Passmore to score from third base in the top of the fifth inning. Valerie Rodriguez scored another run when the Holy Names shortstop misplayed a grounder, giving the Red Hawks a 2-1 lead. Later in the same inning, Morgan Davis singled to shallow center allowing Danielle Crisosto to score and give Simpson the victory 3-1.
Krystal Shaw earned the victory pitching seven innings, allowing one run and six hits, and striking out three batters. Davis went 1-for-3 from the plate and recorded a RBI. Rodriguez went 1-for-2 with a RBI.
In game two, the Red Hawks scored a run in both the second and fourth innings. Hayley Rodriguez pitched a shutout for the 2-0 win over the Holy Names.
Gomez went 1-for-3 from the plate with one RBI, and Crisosto was 2-for-3 from the plate with a RBI. Rodriguez pitched a complete game allowing two hits and striking out 14 batters.
