Lady Red Hawks go 3-1 on Oregon road trip

EUGENE, Ore. – The Simpson University softball team traveled to Oregon and went 3-1 against Northwest Christian University on March 14 and Corban College on March 15. The Red Hawks defeated Northwest Christian 1-0 in game one and 6-1 in game two. Simpson split their series with Corban College, losing 6-3 in game one and winning 5-3 in game two.
On Sunday, March 14, the Red Hawks’ Krystal Shaw was the winning pitcher as she completed a full game allowing no runs and only giving up six hits. Shaw struck out three batters while facing twenty-seven. Amanda Ayala went 1-for-2 from the plate. Morgan Davis scored the only run of the game in the fourth inning.
In game two, the Red Hawks scored three runs in the third, two in the sixth, and one in the seventh to defeat the Beacons 6-1.
Amanda Crocker was the winning pitcher allowing seven hits and one run, while striking out two batters. Corinne Alexander and Candice Vallegra were 2-for-4 from the plate. Alexander, Davis, Nicole Hutchins, Vallegra and Ayala each recorded a RBI. Danielle Cristosto went 3-for-4 from the plate.
On Monday, March 15, Simpson traveled to Salem, Ore., to face Corban College in a doubleheader.
In game one, Corban defeated Simpson 6-3. Shaw picked up the lose, pitching 4.1 innings allowing five hits, four runs and recorded two errors. She walked three batters and had no strike outs for the first time this season. Alexander went 2-for-4 from the plate with one RBI. Hutchins went 2-for-4 with two runs, and Lauren Flood went 1-for-3 with a RBI.
The Red Hawks responded in game two, winning 5-3.
Haley Rodriguez was the winning pitcher. She struck out seven batters and allowed six hits and three runs. Rodriguez pitched a complete game facing twenty-eight batters. Crisosto was 2-for-3 from the plate and recorded one run. Alexander recorded two RBIs and was 1-for-3 from the plate.
The Red Hawks are now 18-9 overall and 4-0 in the Cal Pac. Simpson returns to action on Saturday, March 20 against William Jessup University in Rocklin, Calif. First pitch is set for noon.
