Lady Red Hawks split series with William Jessup

REDDING, Calif. - Simpson University's softball team split a two game series with William Jessup University on Saturday, April 17 at Simpson's softball field. The Red Hawks lost game one 2-5 and won game two 6-2.

In game one, Simpson got on the board first when Corinne Alexander hit a single to center allowing Stefanie Singh to score for a 1-0 lead in the first inning. William Jessup scored two runs in the third and three runs in the fourth to take a demanding lead 5-1.

The Red Hawks responded in the bottom of the sixth when Nicole Hutchins hit a single to short allowing Danielle Crisosto to score from third base to bring the game within three runs. The Red Hawks popped out and filed out in the bottom of the seventh to end the game. William Jessup defeated Simpson 5-2.

Morgan Davis was 3-for-3 from the plate. Alexander went 2- for-4 with a RBI, and Nicki Feuerbach was 2-for-4 from the plate.

Krystal Shaw was the losing pitcher allowing eight hits and five runs. She struck out three batters and walked one.

Simpson regrouped in game two and defeated the Warriors 6-2.

Red Hawks’ Davis scored the first run in first inning on a wild throw by Warriors’ third baseman Audrea Lopez for a 1-0 lead. Singh scored the next run on a wild throw by Alexandra Franco, and Paige Gomez scored the final run of the first inning on an error giving Simpson a 3-0 lead.

In the third inning, the Red Hawks scored two more runs for a 5-0 lead. Singh scored on a wild throw, and Gomez scored on the same error.

William Jessup scored two runs in the fifth inning to bring the score to 5-2.

Simpson closed the game with a run in the sixth by Feuerbach who scored off a single to right by Valerie Rodriguez for a 6-2 lead and win.

Valerie Rodriguez was 3-for-3 from the plate with a RBI, and Davis was 1-for-4 with a run. Singh and Gomez each went 1-for-3 from the plate with two runs scored.

Hayley Rodriguez was the winning pitcher striking out nine batters and allowing seven hits and two runs.
