Cal Pac commissioner announces 2010 conference awards

REDDING, Calif. - California Pacific Conference champion Holy Names University took three of the top individual honors and placed three players on the all-conference women's volleyball first team, Commissioner Don Ott announced on Wednesday, Nov. 10.

Junior outside hitter Ashley Nickell captured the Player of the Year award in an unanimous vote. Nickell along with teammates Samantha Miller and Kayla Coleman made the first team. Holy Names finished 15-10 overall and had a perfect 12-0 record in Cal Pac conference play. This is the team's first championship since 2005.

Joining the Holy Names trio on the first team ballot were Bethany's Jessie Alcorn and Kirsten Duren, Simpson University's Chanel Coleman and William Jessup's Geanna Foster.

Libero of the Year went to Holy Names' Kayla Coleman. The Newcomer of the Year distinction was awarded to Bethany's Kirsten Duren. Bethany's Jessie Alcorn won the Freshman of the Year award. Holy Names' coach Dwight Combs won the Coach of the Year in an unanimous vote.
