Lady Red Hawks hold their own against Humboldt State University

ARCATA, Calif. - Simpson University's women's basketball team traveled to Arcata, Calif., to play an exhibition game against Humboldt State University on Saturday, Nov. 6. The Lady Red Hawks lost 83-75, but they showed vast improvements from their previous game.
The Lady Red Hawks kept the game close in the first half and were down only 10 points at halftime (43-33). In the second half, Humboldt came out hot and go up as many as 15. Simpson showed heart and didn't give up. Their aggressive defense brought Humboldt's lead down to seven, but it too late and the Lumberjacks won 83-75. Simpson outscored Humboldt 42-40 in the second half and forced the Lumberjacks to 27 turnovers. Simpson had 12 steals.
Junior guard Ariassa Wilson led Simpson with 21 points, eight rebounds, and two steals. Freshman Nichole Jones followed with 12 points and six rebounds. Wilson got hurt in the last few minutes of the game and left with a hurt knee. More information will be coming out on Monday about the extent of her injury.
Simpson opens their regular season against Northwest Christian University on Tuesday, Nov. 9 at home. Tip-off is at 5:30 p.m.
