Lady Red Hawks lose close game to CSU Maritime
Simpson University Sports News
REDDING, Calif. - The Lady Red Hawks looked to bounce back from their loss at Holy Names, when they faced CSU Maritime on Jan. 21 in the Heritage Student Life Center. They fell short of victory, losing 59-55.
Simpson jumped out to an early lead 16-6 lead; however, CSU Maritime did not go away. The Lady Keelhaulers made a 17-3 run to take a four-point half time lead.
The second half was an even battle for both teams, each scoring 36 points. Simpson had an opportunity to tie the game when Dominique Simmons got an open look at the hoop but couldn’t convert the layup. Simpson was forced to foul and put CSU Maritime at the line. They converted their next four free-throws.
Simmons led the Red Hawks with 20 points and a season high 18 rebounds. Simpson shot a mere 12 percent from beyond the arc, limiting Paige Barrett’s open looks.
Simpson travels next to Scotts Valley, Calif., to play Bethany University on Saturday, Jan. 23. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. Listen to the game live here. Pre-game show with Ryan Miller 10 minutes before tip-off.
