Lady Red Hawks Lose to William Jessup
Simpson University Sports News
ROCKLIN, Calif. - Saturday night Coach Derrick Pringle Jr. was looking for his Lady Red Hawks to distance themselves from William Jessup University, who is currently tied with Simpson for third place in the California Pacific Conference. Jessup was ousted by Simpson in a dominating 76-42 loss in Redding earlier this year. They made sure that wasn’t going to happen this time. Jessup came out firing and shot their way to an equally commanding 74-57 victory.
In the first half, Simpson couldn’t quite find their offensive rhythm, shooting only 38 percent from the field and 27 percent from beyond the arc. The William Jessup Warriors, however, found their home court more than accommodating for shooting, hitting 50 percent of their first half attempts. Rachelle Russell got all 12 of her points in the first half, going 3-3 from behind the three point line.
The Red Hawks couldn’t build the needed comeback in the second half that Coach Pringle wanted. Their shooting woes continued as they dropped down to 29 percent shooting from the field. Jessup's Aleta Stamp took over in the second half, scoring 12 of her 20 points in the second half. Jessup ended the game on a 12-4 run to put away the Lady Red Hawks.
William Jessup had four players in double figures led by Rachelle Russell’s 20 point, six rebound performance.
The Lady Red Hawks face Holy Names University in Redding on Thursday, February 11. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m. The game will be audio cast via the internet from the Simpson University web site: http://http://simpsonu.edu/livebball.
