Lady Red Hawks defeat Northwest Christian

REDDING, Calif. - Simpson University's women's basketball team continued their winning ways on Tuesday, Dec. 21 against Northwest Christian University in Eugene, Ore. The Lady Red Hawks defeated the Lady Beacons 74-68.

Northwest Christian jumped out to an early 6-0 in the beginning of the first half, but Simpson responded by going into halftime up 33-21.

In the second half, Simpson continued to put pressure on the Lady Beacons forcing 33 turnovers for the game. Northwest Christian responded late in the second half by holding the Lady Red Hawks to 65 points for four minutes to cut down Simpson's lead from 15 points to five with a minute left. The five-point deficit proved to be too much for the Lady Beacons as Simpson defeated Northwest Christian 74-68.

Freshman Nichole Jones led the Lady Red Hawks with 17 points, and senior Kylie Shaw contributed 16 points and five assists. Junior Kayla Rackley poured in 11 points.

Northwestern's Lindsey Shearer had a tremendous game. She had a game high 20 points. She also pulled down 11 rebounds for a double-double. Hope Williams followed closely behind with 19 points. Sheena Alexander scored 11 points for the Lady Beacons.

Simpson returns to action on Monday, Jan. 3 against Southern Oregon University in Ashland, Ore. Tip-off set for 5:30 p.m.
