Lady Red Hawks earn first win of the season against SOU

REDDING, Calif. - Simpson University's women's basketball team picked up its first win of the season by defeating Southern Oregon University 87-76 on Tuesday, Nov. 16 in Redding, Calif. The Lady Red Hawks opened the game with a 14 point lead with 9:38 to go in the first half, but the Lady Raiders fought back and took a two point halftime lead (42-40).
In the second half, Simpson took a 44-43 lead with 18:11 left in the game and never looked back. Southern Oregon cut Simpson's lead down to three with 6:09 left, but the Lady Red Hawks did not let up and increased the led to 11 and sealed the basketball game.
Freshman Bekah Wofford led Simpson with 25 points and eight rebounds. Freshman Nichole Jones contributed with 20 points, and junior Kayla Rackley followed with 19 points. Senior Kylie Shaw finished the game with 15 points and four assists.
Southern Oregon was led by the dominate post presence of Alexi Smith, who had 22 points and nine rebounds.
The Lady Red Hawks return to action on Saturday, Nov. 19 against Westminster College. The game will take place in the Heritage Student Life Center at 4 p.m.
