Lady Red Hawks disappointed after promising first half

REDDING, Calif. - The Simpson University women's soccer team opened its season with a 0-0 tie against Northwest Christian University on Saturday, Aug. 28.

in the first half Simpson dominated William Jessup with four shots and two on goal. The Red Hawks defense allowed no shots for the Warriors. Senior Courtney Opie scored in the 7:49 to give the Red Hawks a 1-0 lead enter the half.

William Jessup would control the second half out shooting Simpson 10-5 with five on goals to the Red Hawks one. Freshman Morghan Pomeroy recorded her only three saves in the game in the second half. William Jessup's Hekla Goodman tied the game in the 59:20 and then Angela Lira would give the Warriors a 2-1 lead in 76:40. Simpson would have one more chances to tie the game but Heather Perez missed wide and the Warriors earned the victory.

Perez lead the Red Hawks with three shots and Opie recorded one shot and one goal. Karissa Hansen had the teams only assist.



It was a defensive battle between the two teams. The Red Hawks allowed only five shots on goal, and the Beacons allowed one. The Beacons out shot the Red Hawks 15-4.

Senior Courtney Opie led the Lady Red Hawks with two shots, and freshman goalkeeper Morghan Pomeroy recorded five saves in her college debut.

The Red Hawks return to action on Saturday, Sept. 4 at 4:30 p.m. against Oregon Tech at the Simpson soccer field.
