Lady Red Hawks defeat Eagles for first win of the season

Simpson University's women's soccer team picked up its first win in the NCCAA West Regional Qualifying Tournament and its first win of the season on Monday, Sept. 20 against the Southwestern College Eagles. The Lady Red Hawks defeated Southwestern 3-1.
Freshman Nicole Goens scored the first goal for Simpson. Senior Courtney Opie and Kalley Jo Goodell recorded the assist for that goal. Opie scored the next two goals to give Simpson the 3-1 win. Goens recorded the assist on Opie's first goal. Samantha Rangel picked up the assist on Opie's second goal.
Opie recorded six shots with four on goal and two goals with an assist. Goens scored one goal with three shots with one on goal and an assist. Karissa Hansen contributed with five shots with three on goal.
Kayla McClain scored Southwestern's lone goal. She was assisted by Sami Palmer.
Simpson finishes out the month of September by playing Southern Oregon University on Saturday, Sept. 25 in Redding, Calif., at the Simpson soccer field. The game is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. The Lady Red Hawks start California Pacific Conference play at the beginning of October.
