Red Hawks finish in top 10 at Mills Invite

OAKLAND, Calif. - The Red Hawks men and women's cross country teams were in action for the second time this season on Saturday, September 17 where they competed in the Mills College Invitational. The men finished in ninth out of 11 teams, and women finished in sixth out of 12 teams that were scoring runners. The competition included schools such as Las Positas, Fresno Pacific University, William Jessup University, UC Merced, Holy Names University, De Anza, Cal State East Bay, UC Santa Cruz, Dominican University, Sonoma State, Pacific, Notre Dame De Namur, and Mills College.

On the men's side it was Las Positas who led the way in the team competition with 60 points. The rest of the top five were Fresno Pacific with 89 points, William Jessup with 102 points, UC Merced with 113 points, and Holy Names with 118 points. Simpson finished in ninth place with 191 points finishing ahead of UC Santa Cruz and Dominican University who finished with 248 and 309 points respectively. It was Holy Names' Fernando Dias who set the pace for runners affiliated with schools on the individual runner side of things posting a time of 27:24 on the 8k course. The first to finish for Simpson was Tony Moore who had a time of 28:16 finished 12th overall followed by Red Hawk runners Brad Arkens (29:47), TJ Hadidian (30:57), Matt Eyman (33:02), Kevin Martin (35:17) and George Park (38:36).

Cal State East Bay led the way in the team competition for the women with 51 points. Sonoma State followed with 69 points, De Anza with 70 points, Pacific with 89 points, and UC Merced with 122 points. Simpson finished in sixth with 190 points beating out such schools Fresno Pacific, Holy Names, William Jessup, Mills, UC Santa Cruz and Notre Dame de Namer. Leading the individual runners from affiliated schools was Cal State East Bay's Tiffany Duffy who turned in a time of 23:50 on the 6k course. The first finishing Red Hawk was Rebekah Studebaker with a time of 26:50 followed by Hannah Dewater (28:24), Alyssa Hope (29:47), Christiana Coleman (30:54) and Amelia Rederburg (33:06).

The next competition that they Red Hawks will be participating in will be in the Nor Cal Challenge on Saturday, Sept. 24 on Simpson's campus in Redding, Calif.
