Red Hawks finish in 17th place at Bronco Invitational

SUNNYVALE, Calif. - Simpson's men and women's cross country teams headed south to Sunnyvale, Calif., to compete in the Bronco Invitational hosted by Santa Clara University on Oct. 14-15.

The men finished 17th out of 20 teams competing on the 8K course. Agustin Alva led all runners representing LA Trade Technical College turning in a time of 24:28. The Red Hawks were led by Tony Moore who finished 68th overall with a time of 27:01. Moore was followed by Red Hawk runners Brad Arkens (28:35.4), Cody Evans (28:35.5), Taylor Hadidian (24:35), Matt Eyman (31:37), Kevin Martin (31:53) and Mark McCutcheon (34:18). The top three schools were LA Trade Technical College who took the team competition with 36 points, John Hopkins University with 77 points ,and Cal Poly with 100 points. The Red Hawks finished in 17th place with 438 points ahead of UC Merced, Notre Dame de Namur and Dominican University.

The University of San Francisco won the women's team competition with 33 points. LA Trade Technical College finished in second with 82 points and University of Hawaii-Manoa finished in third with 92 points. The Red Hawks finished in 17th place with 450 points ahead of UC Merced, Dominican University and William Jessup University. Individually, Devon Kelsey led all runners with a time of 18:10 on the 5K course. Senior Rebekah Studebaker was the first Red Hawk to cross the finish line with a time of 19:39 ahead of Hannah Dooley (21:28), Rebekah Groen (21:58), Hannah Dewater (22:11), Alyssa Hope (23:07), Amelia Rederburg (24:25) and Rachel Harrison (34:12).

Up next for the Red Hawks is the Cal Pac Preview hosted by Pacific Union College on Friday, Oct. 21 in Angwin, Calif.
