Red Hawks split doubleheader with Menlo

REDDING, Calif. - Simpson University's men's baseball team took on Cascade Conference opponent Menlo College on Saturday, March 12 in a doubleheader in Redding, Calif. The teams split the series, winning one game apiece. Menlo won game one 6-4. Simpson won game two 6-4. The two teams face each other again on Sunday, March 13.
In game one, junior left fielder Garrett Barnett went 3-for-5 at the plate. Junior center fielder Daveron Ross recorded two RBIs and went 3-for-4 from the plate with two stolen bases. Senior first baseman Chris Moody and junior Josh Corson each had one RBI. Moody went 2-for-4 from the plate. Junior Scott McKeen recorded the loss for Simpson. He pitched five innings and gave up seven hits. He struck out two batters.
Joel Hull went 3-for-5 from the plate and had three runs for Menlo. Shortstop Chris Mazza recorded five RBIs and was 2-for-3 from the plate. Left fielder Colin Forgey was 2-for-2 from the plate with one run and a stolen base. Kyer Vega was the winning pitcher. He pitched six innings and allowed nine hits. He struck out three batters.
In game two, senior Angel Marti went 2-for-4 with two RBIs for Simpson. Moody, junior right fielder Chuck Matthey, Corson, and Ross each recorded one RBI. Junior catcher Matthew Alton was 2-for-2 from the plate.
Senior Brad Hurn was the winning pitcher for the Red Hawks. He pitched 5.2 innings. He struck out six batters and only allowed three hits and one run. Junior Adrian DeMar picked up the save striking out four and allowing on two hits and three runs.
Forgey went 2-for-4 for the Oaks with three RBIs and one run. First baseman Will Pierce went 1-for-3 with one RBI. Joel Hull, Paul Oakley, and Mickey Phelps each had one run. Derek Martinez picked up the loss. Martinez pitched 5.2 innings. He allowed eight hits and six runs. He struck out four batters.
