Red Hawks earn victory in round two of NAIA Tourney

ATHERTON, Calif. - Simpson University's men's baseball team held off being eliminated in round two of the NAIA West Regional Tournament with a 3-1 win over No. 5 Patten University on Thursday, May 5.

The Red Hawks took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when junior Josh Corson scored on junior Garrett Barnett's single to shallow right. Patten tied the game a one in the top of the fifth. Simpson scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth to edge out Patten for the 3-1 victory. Junior Angel Marti and sophomore Kris Warner both scored on Patten errors.

The winning pitcher for the Red Hawks was senior Dustin Stoddard. He pitched eight innings and gave up seven hits and one run. Corson went 2-for-3 with one run. Marti went 2-for-4 with one run.

Simpson returns to action at 3 p.m. against the loser of the College of Idaho vs. UBC game.
