Red Hawks finish regular season with split against OIT

REDDING, Calif. - Simpson University's men's baseball team played OIT in a conference doubleheader on Friday, April 29 in Redding, Calif. Each team won one game. OIT won game one 2-0. Simpson won game two 3-2.
In game one, OIT scored their only runs in the bottom of the first to take a 2-0 lead that would last the entire game. Senior Brad Hurn was the losing pitcher for Simpson. He pitched six innings and gave up six hits and two runs. He had eight strikeouts. Juniors Angel Marti and Chuck Matthey had the only two hits for Simpson.
In game two, the Red Hawks scored in the top of the second to take a 1-0 lead when sophomore Kris Warner scored on junior Matthew Alton's sacrifice fly. Simpson added another run to their lead in the top of the third when junior Daveron Ross scored on Matthey's double to right. OIT scored in the bottom of the inning to make it a 2-1 ballgame. The Red Hawks scored their last run of the game in the top of the eighth when junior Garrett Barnett reached home on an OIT passed ball. The Owls scored in the bottom of the eighth to bring the final tally to 3-2 in favor of the Red Hawks.
Senior Dustin Stoddard was the winning pitcher. He pitched seven innings and gave up five hits and one run. Ross went 2-for-5 with one run. Warner went 2-for-3 with one run. Barnett went 1-for-3 with one run.
