Red Hawks lose to Wildcats at home

REDDING, Calif. - The Red Hawks men's basketball team hosted the Wildcats from Chico State University on Saturday, Dec. 10. The Red Hawks put up a decent effort but in the end the Wildcats were just the better team as they cruised to a 82-59 victory.
In the first half, the Red Hawks kept the game close as only four points separated the teams with 10:55 to play in the half. However, the Wildcats then took a hold of the game going on a 13-2 run led by James Staniland and Jordan Semple, who both hit some big three's, to put some distance in between the teams. The Wildcats used that momentum to take a 42-23 lead into the half time break. In the half, the Red Hawks only managed to convert on 30.8 percent of their shots while the Wildcats were able to convert on 50 percent. Another big stat in the half was turnovers. Simpson turned the ball over nine times compared to the Wildcats' one turnover.
The second half was a little closer as the teams mostly traded baskets the entire half. The Wildcats outscored the Red Hawks 40-36 in the half, which gave the Wildcats a 23-point victory.
Red Hawk guard Bryan Castillo led all scorers with his 20 points. Calvin Smith was the next highest scorer for the Red Hawks with nine points. Staniland led the Wildcats with his 17 points. Damario Sims and Semple both added 13 in the winning effort for the Wildcats.
The loss drops the Red Hawks season record to 1-10. They will look to bounce back against the Hope International Royals in their last game before the Christmas break on Dec. 17. It will be a home game for the Red Hawks, and w tip-off is at 1:30 p.m.
