UC Santa Cruz defeats Simpson

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - Simpson University men's basketball team played the UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs on Thursday, Feb. 3 in Santa Cruz, Calif. The Red Hawks were unable to come away with the win. They lost 82-54 to Division III UC Santa Cruz.

The Red Hawks could not get into a groove in the first half. The Banana Slugs were up 44-28 at halftime. Simpson shot 31 percent from the field and 12 percent from the three-point line.

In the second half, UC Santa Cruz outscored the Red Hawks 38-26. Simpson did not have a good shooting night; they shot 30 percent from the field and 13 percent from the three-point line. Simpson was able to force 20 turnovers.

Senior Pat Magno led all scorers with 18 points, and junior Bryan Castillo followed 11 points.

Simpson returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 5 against conference rival William Jessup University at home. The Warriors won the last game between these two teams. Tip-off set for 4 p.m.
