Utah Valley's Isaiah Williams proves to be too much for Red Hawks

OREM, Utah. - Simpson University men's basketball team made the long trip to Utah to take on the Great West Conference's Utah Valley Wolverines on Friday, Nov. 11. Simpson lost the road game 80-53.

The Red Hawks struggled from the field in the first half, shooting just 23.1 percent (6-of-26). The Wolverines shot 51.4% (18-of-35) from the field. Wolverine guard Isaiah Williams led the team on an 11-0 run to start the game. He scored seven of the 11 points. Then with just over six minutes remaining in the half and the Red Hawks trailing by nine, Utah Valley went on 10-0 run to close the half. Williams contributed six more points for the Wolverines during this run to put his team up 47-25 at halftime.

The second half did not get much from better for the Red Hawks; they shot 36.4 percent (8-of-22) from the field. Williams scored eight points during a quick 11-2 spurt to put the Wolverines up by 28 (61-33). The Red Hawks could not find an answer for Williams, and the Wolverines were able to coast to the 80-53 victory.

Williams, who is the two-time reigning Great West Conference player of the week, led all scores with 21 points. Bryan Castillo and Stephon Thomas, who each scored 13 points, led the Red Hawks.

The loss brings the Red Hawks' record to 0-4 on the season. They return home to face the OIT Owls on Tuesday, Nov. 15 at 7:30 p.m.
