Simpson shows strength against William Jessup

REDDING, Calif. - Simpson University men's basketball team faced conference rival William Jessup University for the second time this season on Saturday, Feb. 5 at the Heritage Student Life Center in Redding, Calif. Simpson showed improvement from the first match up but could not pull off the victory. The Warriors bested the Red Hawks 79-73.

The Red Hawks had a 41-35 lead at halftime. Simpson shot 46 percent from the field and 36 percent from the three-point line. Simpson held the Warriors to 16 percent shooting from the three-point line.

In the second half, William Jessup came out hot, shooting 75 percent behind the arc (6-for-8). The Warriors took the lead back late in the second and never turned back. William Jessup defeated Simpson 79-73.

Junior Bryan Castillo led all scorers with 28 points, and senior Pat Magno followed with 18 points and five assists.

Simpson returns to action on Thursday, Feb. 10 against Holy Names University in Oakland, Calif. Holy Names won the first meeting between these two teams. Tip-off set for 7:30 p.m.
