Red Hawks tied for fifth at nationals after round one

PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. - Five Red Hawk men's golfers took to the course in the 2011 NCCAA Championship held at The Hombre Golf Club in Panama City Beach, Fla., on Monday, Oct 24.
The Red Hawks as a team find themselves in good shape after one day of competition. They are tied for fifth in the team competition with Trevecca Nazarene University. Both teams shot a combined 307 on the day (+19). Cal Baptist leads the tournament with a team total of 294 (+6) followed by Dallas Baptist with a 297 (+9), North Greenville with a 305 (+17) and Southeastern University with a 306 (+18).
Dallas Baptist's Brandon Johnson led the way on the individual side of things. In round one, he shot a 68 (-4) giving him a three stroke lead over second place Trey Shirley who is 1 under representing Campbellsville University. Simpson's Nick Maddalena is tied for 10th after round one. He shot a 74 (+2). Jake West finish round one at +4; Mitch Card finished at +6; Marcus Mezzano finished at +7; and Bridger Cotton at +12 for the rest of the Red Hawks.
Round two will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 25. The Red Hawks hope to play well enough to make the cut after the second round of play.
