Simpson falls to sixth place in round two of nationals

PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. - Five Red Hawk men's golfers was in action on Tuesday, Oct. 25 in the second round on the NCCAA Championship at The Hombre Golf Club in Panama City Beach, Fla. After the first round, the Red Hawks found themselves in fifth place 13 strokes behind leader Cal Baptist.
The second round saw the Red Hawks slip to sixth place in the team. They shot 304 as a team which brought their two round total to 611 (+35). Cal Baptist remained in the lead and they extend their lead to five strokes (+20). Dallas Baptist finished round two in second place (+25) followed by Tevecca Nazarene in third (+27), Southeastern University in forth (+31), and North Greenville in fifth (+35).
Central Baptist's Justin Burns moved up from third on the individual side of things to first place after shooting a 67 in the second round improving his score to five under par. Burns leads Tim Tait from Cal Baptist and Jon Enfield from Bethel (Ind.) who are tied in second place at even par. For the Red Hawks, Mitch Card had a bounce back round shooting a 70. He jumped from 30th place up to a tie for ninth overall at four over par. Nick Maddalena finished round two in 20th place shooting a 78 to put him eight over par. Jake West (+10), Marcus Mezzano (+13), and Bridger Cotton (+21) round out the rest of the scores for Simpson.
The third and final round will be held Wednesday, Oct. 26. The Red Hawks look to finish the tournament off strong.
