Meehan leads Red Hawks to victory over Arizona Christian

REDDING, Calif. - Simpson University's men's soccer team won their second game in a row on Thursday, Oct. 13. They took on the Firestorm from Arizona Christian University and won 4-0.
The Red Hawks started the match determined to build on the success of the William Jessup win and it didn't take long for them to create chances. However, it wasn't until the 16th minute senior Kerry Meehan scored off a perfect pass from captain Michael Guzman to make it 1-0 Red Hawks. Then just five minutes later, Meehan became provider for Tyler Goens who coolly brought the ball around the Firestorm goalkeeper, Sidney Jones, and put the ball into the open net. The Red Hawks weren't done in the half as again Meehan sent a great cross into the box and Tim Mederios volleyed it in for his first career college goal in the 37th minute.
In the second half it was more of the same for the Red Hawks as the Firestorm just couldn't seem to find an answer for Meehan who found himself free from defenders again in the 59th minute scoring his second goal of the match assisted by Kyle Power capping off the scoring for the Red Hawks. Meehan's two goals and two assists earned him man of the match honors for the Red Hawks, and goalkeeper Justin Webb had another clean sheet for the Red Hawks making five saves on the day.
The match was a departure from their conference schedule and the win brings the Red Hawks record to 3-7 on the season. They will resume their conference schedule Sunday, Oct. 16 against the Pioneers from Pacific Union College. Kick off is at 3 p.m. in Angwin, Calif.
